RetrospectiveA Sci-Fi Sleeper Hit Made Vin Diesel Into a StarBefore he was Fast & Furious, Diesel was Richard B. Riddick.
by Ryan Britt19 hours agoSean Barnes/Gramercy/Kobal/ShutterstockInverse RecommendsThere’s a scene early in the 2000 film Pitch Black that is laugh-out-loud hilarious. After one of the ill-fated crew of the spaceship Hunter-Gratzner thinks escaped convict Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) is on the loose murdering people, the camera does a quick zoom to show ups that Riddick is not trying to murder anybody, but instead, sitting under an umbrella, sipping some water. And, in this one moment, the ethos of Pitch Black, and the appeal of Vin Diesel, can be fully understood.
Twenty-five years ago, hardcore film critics and even sci-fi aficionados were content to write off David Twohy’s Pitch Black as derivative shlock, more suited for a Sci-Fi Channel original movie than a theatrical experience. But Diesel is simultaneously badass and also f*cking hilarious in Pitch Black. ..

Denzel Washington says he was smiling when he learned about his Gladiator 2 Oscar snub as he’s been around too long to care
Denzel Washington was a standout in Gladiator 2 as the power-hungry Macrinus, but despite some early awards buzz, the actor has not been nominated for the Oscars 2025. Not that he cares much about that, though.
“I was sitting there smiling, going: Look at you. On the day you didn’t get a nomination for an Oscar, you’re working on Othello on Broadway. Are you kidding me?”, he said in a recent interview with The New York Times. The actor is playing the lead in a new production of Othello that goes into previews on February 24, with Jake Gyllenhaal co-starring as Iago.
“‘Awww. Oh, I’m so upset’. Listen, I’ve been around too long. I’m getting wiser, working on talking less and learning to understand more — and that’s exciting,” he added.
The supporting actors nominated for this year’s Academy Awards are Yura Borisov for Anora, Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain, Edward Norton for A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce for The Brutalist, and Jeremy Strong for The Apprentice.

Martial arts legend Donnie Yen enters talks to direct his own character’s John Wick spin-off: “I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen”
John Wick 4 star Donnie Yen has confirmed he’s not just starring in an upcoming spin-off about his character – he’s also in talks to direct it, although he can’t share much more than that.
When asked about his potential involvement behind the camera, Yen told Collider, “It is true. I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen, and we’ll see. I don’t know. I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We’ll see what happens.”
Yen plays Caine in the franchise, a blind former High Table assassin who must kill John Wick by order of the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård), otherwise his daughter will be murdered. A spin-off movie about the character was first announced back in May 2024.
Yen is also known for starring in the Ip Man series of martial arts movies, as well as directing films like Legend of the Wolf, Shanghai Affairs, and, most recently, The Prosecutor.
Next up from the world of John Wick is Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as E.. -

James Gunn’s DC show Creature Commandos featured plenty of fantastic characters, but that finale proved The Bride is the best of them
“One less human. More room for the monsters to roam.” That’s how The Bride, the closest thing that Creature Commandos has to a sort of break-out character, justifies the eventual demise of Princess Ilana in the fourth episode.
To her, people are cruel and unstable, often falling prey to their own hubris and desires for power and love. And sure, the same can be said of monsters, but monsters are what The Bride knows, she understands that kind of chaos. And that’s why The Bride was always destined to the leader of the Creature Commandos.
She officially earns this spot in the final episode of the first season of the show, taking over in the wake of Rick Flag Sr.’s grievous injuries at the hands (well, mud) of Clayface. Flag himself had hinted at her skills before.
Back in the aforementioned fourth episode, just as The Bride disconnects from Flag due to the latter’s commitment to the idea that the Princess actually doesn’t want to rule the world, he commends her on how well she handled her.. -
TVSkeleton Crew’s Release Date Is Closer Than You ThinkHere’s everything we know about the new Star Wars series.
by Lyvie Scott7 hours agoLucasfilmStar WarsThe future of Star Wars has been up in the air for some time, and 2024 has been an especially turbulent period for the franchise. Between the untimely cancellation of The Acolyte and movie production continuing to stall, Lucasfilm needs a crowdpleaser now more than ever.
But there’s still a chance to end the year on a high note, as Lucasfilm has one more card up its sleeve: Skeleton Crew. Created by Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and screenwriter Christopher Ford, Skeleton Crew is poised to deliver a coming-of-age adventure in the same vein as ‘80s classics like The Goonies, and the long-awaited series could be a nostalgic boost to carry us through the holiday season.
It’s the first Star Wars project since Young Jedi Adventures to put a young cast front and center, but don’t expect a low-stakes romp through the galaxy. .. -

(Spoiler Alert :) 59 Years Later, ‘Dune’s Latest Twist Just Set Up Paul Atreides’ Greatest Villain
Bad SistersDune Just Quietly Flipped the Script on Its Greatest VillainsAre the Harkonnens evil or just messed up?
by Ryan Britt6 hours agoHBO/Warner BrosDuneWe may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article. In Dune: Prophecy, we’ve not gotten to the point where everyone in House Harkonnen shaves their head and starts loving sadism, but the series is certainly laying the groundwork for how and why the most depraved and arrogant group in the Imperium became that way. While Dune: Prophecy draws on previously established lore from Frank Herbert’s Dune (1965), it fleshes out those specifics from much newer books. In fact, the extended flashback in the third episode, “Sisterhood Above All,” focuses on a pivotal murder from the book Mentats of Dune, published just 10 years ago, in 2014.
It’s in this moment, and the episode overall, that we begin to understand the long rivalry between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. Yes, House Atreides has a right .. -
Scottish movie star James McAvoy, arguably best known for his role as Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies, is currently doing the press rounds for his new psychological horror thriller ‘Speak No Evil’ and during a recent promo event was asked to name his favourite game.
Appearing on an episode of ‘Hot Ones’ Versus with Mackenzie Davis, McAvoy cited Square’s legendary 1993/94 RPG Super Nintendo release Secret of Mana as his favourite game of all time. He labelled it a “cool” but “niche” game and unfortunately his co-star wasn’t able to guess what it was – instead name-dropping titles like Wolfenstein 3D, Donkey Kong Country, Mortal Kombat and Zelda.
This exchange ended up getting shared on the official Mana series account on social media:
If you haven’t ever had the chance to experience this game before, it’s well worth a look. Although it’s not available on Switch Online’s Super Nintendo service, you can still access it on the Switch via the Collection of Mana series, which also cont..
