Far be it from me to make Game of the Year predictions for 2025 when we haven’t even wrapped up 2024 – here comes the big but looming over that statement – but I don’t see other games letting you drift giant birds like the Akira motorcycle, so Monster Hunter Wilds at least has a head start by my count.

GameSpot shared a few minutes of new campaign and hunt gameplay from Monster Hunter Wilds this week, and the best detail is right at the front, as Reddit user Qtip_Factory spotted. The demo’s custom-made hunter, a greatsword-wielding woman with hair that stays luscious even in sweltering desert sands, rides her Seikret mount alongside the guild’s sand-ship, yanks her greatsword out of the ground after beloved smithy Gemma hurls it overboard, then immediately slams the handbrake on that Seikret for a picture-perfect Akira slide while staring down the camera. Exil is another gorgeous side-scrolling Metroidvania that’s just hit Kickstarter, and it’s absolutely smashed its modest funding goal of… a singular dollar.
In true Metroidvania spirit, Exil has you traversing ”mystical landscapes” to ”uncover hidden paths and secrets” with fast and fluid action that lets you switch between different ability loadouts on the fly. What really caught my eye in the trailer below was how it riffs on Cuphead’s delightful parry – where you can double jump off of pinkish projectiles – which encourages you to put yourself in danger if you want the extra advantage.

There’s a new Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer showing off an extensive array of the game’s early cutscenes, and it looks both gorgeous and absolutely faithful to the 2004 original. But there’s just something about the old voice acting coming out of the new character models that feels a little bit weird.
Metal Gear Solid Delta reuses the voice acting of the original MGS3, so all the line delivery is just as it was back in 2004. The original Snake Eater has one of the all-time great sets of vocal performances, with just the combination of military thriller drama and campy anime shenanigans to make it all extremely memorable. David Hayter’s performance as Snake is absolutely iconic for a reason.

D’oh! After 12 years, EA is shutting down the mobile city builder The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
An in-game announcement was shared to Tapped Out players on Thursday that said in-app purchases are disabled effective immediately and the game will be pulled from mobile app stores on October 31. You’ll still be able to play the game until January 24, 2025, but after that it’s fully over for Tapped Out.
Frankly, 12 years is an incredible run for a fairly niche mobile game based on The Simpsons, and according to EA there’s been a staggering 308 updates, 831 characters, and 1,463 questlines based on the show.
“The decision to end our twelve-year journey is an emotional one,” EA said on Facebook. “Together with our partners at The Simpsons™ and The Walt Disney company, we have delighted in bringing this game to you, the fans, and seeing how you’ve each built your own beloved versions of Springfield.”

It has been 30 years since Ridge Racer first hit the PlayStation, and Retro Gamer is looking back at the franchise’s impressive back catalog of games. The original arcade hit debuted in 1993, convincing Jerry Momoda to join the company. “I was teased with an early look at Ridge Racer, and I was so impressed,” he recalls. “It was state-of-the-art 3D that included texture mapping and Gouraud shading – and all this at 60fps.”
Famed for its distinct location and bright visuals, Jerry mentions that Ridge Racer’s look was partly due to Namco’s president at the time. “The chairman and founder of Namco, Mr Nakayama, was really into movies and the film industry, and back in the day Namco owned a movie studio,” he explains. “I think this passion influenced the look and feel of Namco’s games. Ridge Racer’s setting was fictitious. It was partially based on driving in mountainous areas, which was popular at that time in Japan.”

My Happy Marriage, one of the best Netflix anime shows, has confirmed its return window. The streamer announced the news with the release of a magical new trailer, which begins with Miyo speaking about the nature of dreams.
“I am the only one in this world with the Dream-Sight ability,” she says in a voiceover after waking up from a dream where Lord Kudo apologizes to her and confesses his love. The first season of the adaptation of Akumi Agitogi’s Japanese light novel series, saw Miyo living with her new fiancé Lord Kiyoka Kudo, after being shunned for many years for not having the spirit sight.
However, a family secret then revealed her own abilities were much stronger than she had ever imagined. To remain safe, she must now go and live in her maternal home, but this means leaving Kudo behind, just after finding peace from her traumatic childhood.
